PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

This series of unique wet plate portraits shows seven New Orleans Healthcare Workers in their various PPE - often sourced from home or spirited between differently resourced hospitals - taken in March and April 2020. Living with two medical residents during the outbreak of Covid 19 in New Orleans, Turner noted that differences in personal protective equipment worn by her partner, her roommate and their colleagues reflected the widely varied resources, regulations and national preparedness for the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic. The creativity, resourcefulness and DIY problem solving by frontline health care workers in the first months of the pandemic was driven by and reflective of the total lack of national coordination or leadership.
